Cost guide

Yacht charter cost by destination

TL;DR: A crewed yacht charter costs the weekly charter fee plus three things: running costs (APA, up to about 40% of the fee), local VAT or charter tax (none to 22%, depending on the country), and a crew gratuity of 10–15% (10% is the standard, and the totals here use it). So the same $40,000 charter fee comes to anywhere from about $44,000 to $69,000 all-in, depending on where you cruise and how the yacht is priced.

The four parts of the price

  1. The charter fee. The weekly rate for the yacht and its crew, the number on the listing.
  2. Running costs (APA). On plus-expenses yachts, roughly 20–40% of the fee for food, drink, fuel and port fees, reconciled against receipts at the end of the week. All-inclusive yachts, common in the Caribbean, fold most of this into the fee.
  3. VAT or charter tax. Set by the country where the charter starts, and usually charged on the fee, not the APA.
  4. Crew gratuity. 10–15% of the fee. Think of it like a restaurant tip: 10% is standard, 15% is for exceptional service.

By destination

Each card shows how yachts there are usually priced, the APA and tax to expect, where crewed weeks start, and what a $40,000 charter fee comes to all-in with a 10% gratuity (a 15% gratuity adds another $2,000). Mediterranean yachts are usually quoted in euros; figures here are approximate US dollar equivalents.
